"If you have a theatrical production, and you take away the costumes, the props, the set, the sound and lighting, and the stage, what are you left with? This is not a trick question. As logic would have it, you’re left with the actors and the ground beneath their feet, a particular story to tell and the people who have come to hear it. For New York’s Green Theatre Collective, these core ingredients are enough. The Green Theatre Collective, one of the country’s first eco-theatre companies, champions this sort of threadbare minimalism, setting its performances in unadorned outdoor venues so that the natural environment becomes an integral aspect of the audience’s experience." Article in The Sag Harbor Express The Sag Harbor Express Shakespeare in the Raw By Annette Hinkle “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players” — so wrote William Shakespeare in “As You Like It,” his pastoral comedy of love and mistaken identity in the forest primeval. But while the Bard was probably thinking of the world as a theatrical place in the rhetorical sense, the Green Theatre Collective is taking that phrase to a whole new level. And it’s doing so right here on the East End. For Green Theatre Collective (GTC), all the world literally is the stage — one where fields and orchards provide the backdrop and the fly space is nothing more than the blue sky overhead."
